Race Team

Platinum Motorsports

Platinum Express would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Platinum Motorsports Race Team. The race team will be campaigning cars in the CRA JEGS All-Star Series full-time in 2015 and will also make starts in the ARCA/CRA Super Series, as well as the larger profile local events at Columbus Motor Speedway.

Piloting the Hamke Chassis Late Models will be veteran drivers Bill Burba and Mike Stacy. Mike is currently 2nd in the CRA JEGS All-Star Series point standings after the first 2 races. Mike’s patience and perseverance paid off in the first race of the season as he was able to claim an eighth place finish for the Platinum Motorsports Team and give the team a solid start heading in the 2nd event at Columbus Motor Speedway. The team put together another solid run at Columbus with Mike qualifying 6th and bringing home a 3rd place finish that moved him into 3rd place in the series points standings.

Bill Burba made his 2015 debut at the Columbus race. Bill made an impressive showing in his first start with a brand new Hamke chassis. The car showed impressive speed right out of the trailer and Bill showed he knows his way around the flat, tricky oval when he qualified the white #26 machine 3rd for the 100 lap race. Unfortunately, Bill had trouble early on after getting spun and hit early in the event. Still the team and Bill soldered to the finish. After several pit stops to repair damage and make adjustments, BIll brought the Platinum Express machine home 12th.

The Platinum Motorsports team is led by veteran crew chief Marc Metz and veteran driver Justin Alsip. Team members include Zach Stacy (Mech.), Darin Current (Mech.), Luke Current (Mech.), Landon Hallam (Tire Specialist) and Paul Tobin (Communication Specialist). And of course none of us could do what we do without the commitment and support of Team Owners, Myna and Dave Burba. Keep an eye out for Platinum Motorsports team updates!

Bill Burba

Bill raced motocross for 12 years. During his motocross career, Bill moved up through the classifications to achieve the status of “A” rider. During his years racing his two wheeler, through the dirt and the air, Bill won several Track and State Championships. In 2004, Bill decided to trade in two wheels for four wheels and try his hand at stock car racing. He started in the Pure Stock class at Kil-Kare Speedway. Bill proved to be a quick study, earning 3 victories and Rookie of the Year honors in his first year behind the wheel.

Stats & Accomplishments

The 2005 season brought new challenges as Bill jumped up a couple classes to the premier division of Late Models at Kil-Kare Speedway. Bill was able to continue winning as he captured a feature win in his rookie season in the extremely competitive class and finished 7th in the overall points championship. In 2006, BIll continued to run the Late-Model Division capturing another feature win and improving his year-end points finish by 4 positions finishing the year 3rd in points, with 1 win, 6 top fives, 13 top tens in 14 starts.

The next couple of years Bill traveled with the Main Event Racing Series and continued competing locally as well. In 2008, Bill decided to try his hand at the super competitive and popular Open Wheel Modified Series. Bill found the winners circle in the modified as well, as he captured many top qualifier awards and an impressive 18 feature wins at multiple tracks between 2008 and 2013.

After, Bill survived a terrifying crash at Winchester Speedway during the last modified race of 2013, a crash that sent Bill and his open-wheeled racer over the wall and flipping wildly “out of the park”, Bill returned to the Late Model division in 2014. In his first race of 2014, Bill got right back to work, setting fast time and winning the feature race at Kil-Kare Speedway. That win would be the spark needed to set the team on fire for 2014.

Bill captured 5 wins including the Robbie Dean Memorial at Shadybowl Speedway and runner-up in the Shatto Memorial 110. He also added a strong 3rd place finish in the Nuckles Memorial at Columbus Motor Speedway. He was fast qualifier 7 times and had an average finish of 4.2 in all special events ran in 2014 with races ran at Kil-Kare, Columbus, and Shadybowl speedways.

2015 will find Bill piloting the #26 Platinum Express Hotrod, in the CRA/JEGS Allstar Series, ACRA/CRA Super Series, as well as some local events.

Mike Stacey
